How To's: Custom Frame Your Artwork Like A Pro
(1 vote)

Beautiful Artwork and images are one of the cornerstones of a modern society. A pleasing piece of art or image can be as attractive to the mind’s eye as a piece of chocolate is to the palate. However, even the most wonderful image is enhanced by the perfect frame.

With this in mind, UpgradeYourLifestyle and Technicraft present a step by step look at how to frame a piece of artwork or image the way professionals do.
For this demonstration, we chose a piece of art that came into the workshop that also required a reproduction. And who do you think of when you hear the word “workshop”? Why, Santa of course.

Before the process can begin, the perfect frame must be selected. Technicraft has a store room stacked with inventory of standard and specialty frame material from suppliers all around the country.

The process by which the original artwork is recreated and every color and pixel matched for detail, tone and intensity is very unique to Technicraft and, just like Santa’s list… it’s a trade secret.

The information is then fed into a super-size print machine and jolly old Saint Nick is squeezed out on a high-quality canvas material.
Before continuing, the artwork is double checked for accuracy and then measured and cut from the canvas; leaving enough room on all sides so it can be attached to the stretching frame.

There are two different types of frames that need to be measured and cut for each piece of art… the stretching frame the canvas will be mounted on – and the decorative picture frame that will surround the jolly fella’s face.

Once the exact measurements are determined, the frame material is fed into the custom frame cutter. Four carefully measured cuts later… we now have four adjoining strips for each frame ready for assembly.

Regardless of size or shape, the process for assembling any frame is the same. The adjoining pieces are connected with a special adhesive and connecting staples are inserted into the frame to ensure long term stability.

Each canvas is then connected to the stretching frame and hand-stretched to exactly the right size. This process can be painstaking at times, as the craftsmen must make certain the image is perfectly centered but not impacted by the stress of the process.

The image and stretching frame is then inserted into the picture frame and all that is left to complete are the finishing touches. Brown paper is placed over the back. A hanging wire is attached and bumpers are placed around the four corners to ensure against any nicks or scratches.

What began as a simple picture of jolly old Saint Nick has now been transforemed into an attractive piece of holiday spirit, beautifully framed and ready for hanging above the fireplace.
